Evaluation
Thriller Opening: “Ivana”
Overall I think our final product came out okay, Due to the circumstances of Re-shooting and using the smaller camera of which we wasn’t familiar with but I originally thought that it would come out better than it has. To film we used the SONY A1G, ‘Final cut pro’ to edit and ‘Photoshop’ to make our title, In my group there wasn’t any particular person including myself who was familiar with ‘Final cut pro’ which probably effected the editing in the final product and I wasn’t in for the last week to finalise the editing so I wasn’t able to give ideas. In editing our video we used ‘sound track pro’ for some of our Audio for example the breathing and the non-diagetic music.
The things that I was pleased about in our final opening was the circular structure of it, where the night shot was at the beginning and the end of the thriller opening which reminds me of such films as ‘Pans labyrinth’ and It worked well as a thriller opening because we didn’t give to much away of what would happen in the rest of a film. The positive feedback we were given said that the ‘getting ready scene’ was built slowly which showed a good representation of the character Ivana and the car sequence was well shot.
I Think that we used the technology we had to our full potential because we used some manual effects on the video camera for example ‘Night vision’ and we manually adjusted the focus and lighting and we used a camera mounted mic for our sound, we also used technology in editing our Thriller opening and uploading planning work to our blog so we could organise our work better and it could be viewed properly. Equipment that I would have liked to use if I could get the chance again would have been the HD Sony Z1 because I was used to how it works better than the Sony A1G so I could have done more camera effects, I would have also liked a ‘Boom mic’ because It could have picked up more sound in detail which may have been useful for some of our scenes.
Things I would have done differently to enhance my thriller opening would include taking our time over the re-shoot by paying more attention to detail for example when ‘Ivana’ is tied to the bed and ropes are not tied properly as it would have been, And I think it would have been to our advantage if we got more footage there would have been a wider variety of shots to choose from. In addition I would have chosen to have more editing techniques for example wipe transactions to help the continuity of our opening because in some places it was quite jumpy.
I think that the music we used was well suited to what was happening in the scene but it could have been edited differently so that it fades to an appropriate level when there is dialogue, because there was a specific part when the music dipped to low and then came up again to fast.
I think that ‘Ivana’ Worked well as a thriller opening because it gave the audience a taste of the story line and left the audience in suspense, It also had a main protagonist and a villain which does give it a slight genre of horror and some of the props we used for example the knife added tension as well, so It might not be 100% conventional. I also believe that as a group we worked well in coming up with ideas but In the future I would work with different people that had strengths in different skills.

Blogging the shoot
Our first shoot was at Takara's house when we filmed the getting ready scene, Me, Takara and Our actress Esther attended the shoot and my role was to film and Takara was directing me what to shoot and getting the scene and the props ready.
We set up our camera on the tripod and waited for out actress to arrive, luckily she didnt take long and got into her costume as soon as she arrived, we looked over our story boards and realised that some of the shots we planned to do didn't look that good so we improvised on some shots, we also thought that having the camera handheld looked better than using the tripod.
We started filming around 6 pm and we did approximatly 3 takes of each shot because we wasn't sure on what was going to look best. We spent a very long time on shooting the bath scene because we had to wait for the bath, decorate the bathroom and get our actress changed, time was also added because there was an accident in which the candles around the bath burnt the actress! so we had to wait a while and eventually finished our shoot at 10pm!.
I thought this shoot went very well overall because we took our time over it and the quality of our footage was diverse so we had alot to use. When we tried to upload and edit our video we were told that there was something wrong with the camera we were using and we wouldnt be able to use it. This really devestated us and was a major set back for our group because we had to plan new dates to film and make sure the actors and actressses were available and The post -16 camera were no longer available so we had to use the smaller camera which had less manual effects and less quality.
We decided we would film again all on the same day to get it over and done with So we decided to use my house and my Nan's house because my Nan conviniently lives next door to me. We checked with our actors and actresess that they could make the date and got all of our props ready and this time we all attended the shoot including Jamie.
We were about to film and then Takara's friend 'Esther' who was playing the actress said she couldnt make it so we had to call my friend last minute and thankfully she could make it which is why we renamed our film "Ivana" instead of "Esther". This time we knew what we was going to shoot and how to shoot it so it took a little shorter but we had to adapt to the new surroundings.
We all took a turn in filming and directing but we didnt get as many shoots for each scene as I would have liked to. We finished filming for the murder scene in a couple of hours and then Jamie and the Actor Fabian left because in the getting ready scene Ivana had to be in the bath so we didnt think it was appropriate so I filmed this part of the shoot. Overall It was a long and stressful process to film and we could have done alot better but given the curcumstances I beleive we made the best out of what we had.

Thriller Sypnosis
The opening shot begins with the main protagonist Ivana who is getting ready for a Saturday night out, The lighting is low and there no background music which adds to the tension, the only sound is of Ivana's cries for help. Ivana Is a young attractive woman which makes the audience feel she is an easy target. As she steps in the cab she takes the road into the unknown she finds out she is a victim of a sickening plan, When Ivana gets into the cab the audience can only see the shilouette of the cab driver and Ivana finds out she is going the wrong way. She is then viciously man handled and taken into a house, the house is well lit and seems relitivly normal because there are flowers and pictures on the side table which is in contrast to what is going on. There is several shots and different point of view shots of Ivana being pushed up the stairs and taken into the bedroom where she is tied up and left. There is then a shot of Ivana left on the bed in 'night vision' to show the room is pitch black and to emphasise that she is alone. When the 'cab driver' returns he drags a knife down the side of the door and the end shot is the 'night vision' shot repeted to leave the audience left in suspence of what is going to happen next.
