The size of the screen e.g 16:9 (Widescreen) 4:3 (Square television/ standard)

Normal screen

Widescreen

Widescreen uses pan and scan which crops out the edges when played on a 4:3 screen. So you can’t get the full essence of the shot. On the other hand it lets you view in a wider shot which shows the shot more clearly and the emotion of the character. If you are watching a 4:3 on a widescreen TV you have black/grey gaps which are called letterboxing.

In the UK TV plays on average 25 frames per second to creating a smooth moving picture.
Still images:frames
Resolution: How many pixels there are in an image. When there are more pixels the image is better quality.
The TV screen:
The TV screen is made up of hundreds of lines called scan lines. Different countries use slightly different numbers of lines per screen and different numbers of frames per second. Film works on the same principle as TV and used 24 per second which is slightly more jerky.
